We caught up with Briley Wieland, the exhibitor the Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat at the 2023 State Fair of Texas! Learn a little more about Briley below!

Hometown: Yorktown, TX
Grade: I am in 11th grade
What’s your Goat name? and what made him/her so special?
My goats name was Iceman. What made him so special is that he was such a pet! Anytime I went into his pen he would sit in my lap like a dog.
Throughout your show career what’s been your favorite Goat?
Iceman was my favorite goat. The memories that I have made with him are truly special.
What do you tell yourself right before you go into the ring?
I always tell myself to stay calm and at the end of the day it’s one judge’s opinion. No matter what the outcome is I know my family will be proud of me.
What’s your dream college to attend?
I would love to attend Tarleton State University.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the barn?
My favorite thing to do in the barn is to turn on my speaker as loud as it goes and work leg hair!
What’s your favorite show? and why?
My favorite show would be the State Fair of Texas. The people are so nice and helpful! Even though it’s a long drive I absolutely love showing in Dallas.
How do you stay focused on reaching your goal?
It’s a lot of early mornings and late nights in the barn. I like to set my goals and don’t stop working and pushing myself until I accomplish them.
Who has been your biggest influence?
I have a lot of great influences in my life so picking just one is simply impossible. My parents are definitely some of the most hardest working people I have ever seen. There has been a lot of arguments and disagreements in the barn between us but I couldn’t ask for more supportive people in my life. They are always proud of me no matter the outcome of a show. I am so thankful to have them in my life! Another big influence in my life is Glen Martin. I wouldn’t have accomplished this goal without him. I am so thankful for everything he has done for me throughout my show career. Thank you for always pushing me to drive harder and never give up!
