We caught up with Madison Goecke, exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat at the 2022 Kentucky State Fair! Learn a little more about Madison below!
Hometown: Augusta, Kentucky
School: Oklahoma State University
I plan to attend vet school in the Fall of 2023. I want to come home and be a practicing Food Animal Veterinarian.
How many years have you been showing? Do you show any other species?
I have been showing since I could remember, so basically my whole life! Throughout my show career, I have shown pigs, cattle, and goats!
Other hobbies besides showing livestock?
I am on the 2022 OSU Livestock Judging Team, and I enjoy just hanging out with family and friends!
Best stock show memory:
My favorite stock show memory will always be having the privilege of winning Grand and Reserve Market Goats at the 2018 Kentucky State Fair. To this day, I am still the only one who has ever two-holed one of the market shows at our state fair!
Tell us about your recent champion:
My goat is named Skills, and he was bred by Miller Boer Goats in Thorntown, Indiana. He is out of Rafiki, so we kicked it a little old school with him! He was a goofball who we always feared would hurt himself because he loved to jump and play in his pen, but would stop for a head pet and animal crackers!
What is one word that describes the feelings you had stepping foot into the Grand Drive?
I am grateful to have grown up in an industry that has given me so much. This was my last time showing as a junior exhibitor, so it was a bittersweet moment.
Favorite Livestock Show:
Kentucky State Fair
I love national shows, but there’s nothing like the green shavings in the middle of August!
