We caught up with Maci Zerbach, the exhibitor the Grand Champion Market Goat at the 2023 American Royal! Learn a little more about Maci below!

What school do you attend/grade are you in?
I attend Glide Elementary I’m currently in 4th grade.

Tell us a little about your champion:
I really loved Rip, I knew he was special that’s why I named him Rip off of Yellowstone.

What has showing livestock taught you?
Showing has taught me a lot of things. I’ve learned the harder I work the better the outcome can be. The good byes are hard but I know that’s what has to happen. I love spending time with my animals and family at the shows. It’s taught me what’s important.

What has been your biggest obstacle you have overcome while showing?
My biggest obstacle is growing and having to change my showing style. I started showing when I was 4 so getting taller has been a hard adjustment. Also having to wait to be old enough to show at the majors.

Whats your favorite part of a goat show?
My favorite part of a goat show is the excitement of making the grand drive and hoping my hard work pays off.

What do you do to celebrate after a big win?
After American Royal there were lots of hugs and tears. It was a fun evening!

Do you prefer to show wethers or does?
I love showing wethers quite a bit more!

What’s your favorite show? and why?
My favorite show so far has been American Royal. The show was huge and lots of good competition. I also get to see my show friends from all over.

Who has been your biggest influence?
I have a few people I look up to. Bailee Amstutz, Josh Velez, Jake P and Randy Hill. Each of these people have taken time to help me become a better showman and I would love to grow up to be like any of them!
