We caught up with Kenna Cooley, the exhibitor the Grand Champion Wether Doe at the 2024 National Western Stock Show! Learn a little more about Kenna below!
What school do you attend/grade are you in?
I am a senior at West Franklin High School in Pomona, Kansas.
Tell us a little about your champion:
My champion doe was without a doubt a special one. Her name was Pistol Penny and she was raised by Kempker Livestock. She definitely had a strong personality, and an ear that you could spot from a mile away. The moment I saw her, I knew she would do big things.
What has showing livestock taught you?
Showing livestock has taught me that when you surround yourself with the right people, anything is possible. I have been fortunate enough to learn from the best in the industry.
What has been your biggest obstacle you have overcome while showing?
I tend to be a perfectionist, so my biggest obstacle showing is figuring out how each each of my goats should be shown. It takes mental toughness and patience to figure out what I need to do to make sure each animal is shown to its highest potential. My biggest obstacle is usually myself.
Whats your favorite part of a goat show?
I love everything about goat shows, but nothing compares to that champion handshake.
What do you do to celebrate after a big win?
After a big win, we go out for a nice celebration dinner. We typically end up at a steakhouse or Mexican restaurant.
Do you prefer to show wethers or does?
When it comes to showing wethers or does, I don’t have a preference. I love showing both!
What’s your favorite show? and why?
My favorite show is the American Royal. I live about 45 minutes from Kansas City, so the American Royal feels like home.
Who has been your biggest influence?
My biggest influence without a doubt has been Trent and Emma Kempker. They are two of the most hard working people I have ever met, and they have shaped me into the showman and person I am today.
