We caught up with Cameron Shelton, the exhibitor the Grand Champion Wether Doe at the 2023 Arizona National! Learn a little more about Cameron below!
What school do you attend/grade are you in?
I am a Senior at Monache High School
Tell us a little about your champion:
“Regina” is certainly one of the special ones we have been blessed to show this year. She was raised by Ace High Livestock and sold in the Friday Night Female Sale, now retained by Lacy Livestock.
What has showing livestock taught you?
Showing livestock has taught me responsibility, time management, and how to have a good work ethic.
What has been your biggest obstacle you have overcome while showing?
The biggest obstacle that I have overcame while showing livestock was not starting when I was young. I had to learn a little quicker than most and just didn’t have as much ring time as some others when I first started.
Whats your favorite part of a goat show?
My favorite part of a goat show is being in the show ring and getting my goats stuck as good as I can.
What do you do to celebrate after a big win?
We normally celebrate by jamming out to music while we break down the goats and clean up. And if we get done early we will go to dinner with the whole team and have a good time!
Do you prefer to show wethers or does?
I would say I enjoy showing does more right now just because I really like the ones attitudes that I have in the barn right now. But some of my favorite goats over the years have been wethers. It’s a toss up.
What’s your favorite show? and why?
My favorite show would have to be Arizona Nationals. My friends from other states are usually there so we get to hang out and it is a laid back show and all the staff are nice and happy to be there.
Who has been your biggest influence?
My biggest influence has to be my sister Codi. If it wasn’t for her I would not be where I am today.
